About

You Gotta Be Freakin' Kidding Me (YGBFKM) is a digital publication that finds the most true-but-strange news around and delivers it to its readers on a daily basis. If you're tired of regular old doomscrolling, this is the place for you.

Our story

YGBFKM was born out of a particular moment. It was a moment fueled by equal parts exhaustion and exasperation.

First came the exhaustion.

If you've been following the mainstream news cycle for a few decades like we have, you've probably noticed that there's no shortage of breathless headlines, endless speculation, heaps of fear-mongering, and, of course, "BREAKING NEWS!!!"

It's exhausting. It's desensitizing. And it gave rise to the whole phenomenon of doomscrolling.

One day, the team over at field15, Inc. (owners and operators of the YGBFKM brand) were in the middle of a real-time, group, doomsharing session, when someone came across a headline like, "Scientists Discover Fungus that Will Soon Consume 99% of Life on Earth," and then blurted out something like, "Oh, what the h*ll is this?!?! C'mon. It's like we really are living in the End Times." Someone else quipped, "I'd love a site with nothing but news like that." And then the room went silent.

An idea was born.

Within minutes, the team went to work trying to find a domain name for their new pet project.

Then came the exasperation. (If you've tried to buy a domain name yourself in the last 25 years, you know exactly where this is going.)

48 hours later, having tried every reasonable and non-reasonable combination of dictionary words and acronyms coupled with ".com," in a total fit of frustration, someone entered a string of seemingly random letters into the domain name search tool, got told that it, too, was unavailable, and blurted out, "You gotta be freakin' kidding me!"

And then, a second idea was born.

yougottabefreakinkiddingme.com was miraculously available. Along with gottabekidding.me, gottobekidding.me, and ygbfk.me. Chances are, one of those domains is sitting in your browser's location bar at this very second. If not, it means we've continued buying variations on this very long and unruly domain name that some people say is terrible but that we think is one hundred percent apropos to the times, to the content, and to the feeling you get when you type it into your address bar.

So, that's who we are, how we came to be, and why we're here. If you'd like to learn more about the field15 family of brands, hop over to our corporate website at https://field15.com.
